A Mummy to Bee, a Hundred Acre Wood, and the Biggest Winnie the Pooh Order We've Ever Made

Some orders stop you in your tracks.

Not because they're complicated, though this one certainly was, but because from the very first conversation, you can feel how much thought and love has gone into the theme. This was one of those orders.

A baby shower. A Winnie the Pooh theme. And a brief that gave us the opportunity to create something we're genuinely, deeply proud of.

Here's the full story.

The Cake

Where do we even begin.

The bottom tier is wrapped entirely in a hand-applied edible print of the original Hundred Acre Wood map — the one from the books. Not a modern interpretation, not a cartoon version, but the classic illustrated map: 100 Aker Wood, Owl's House, Rabbit's House, Pooh Bear's House, the Sandy Pit Where Roo Plays, the Bee Tree, Eeyore's Gloomy Place (Rather Boggy and Sad). Every landmark, faithfully reproduced and wrapping the entire tier. Walk around this cake and you're walking around Pooh's world.

On top of that sits the middle tier, sculpted entirely as the trunk of Pooh's tree, complete with gnarled bark texture, lush green moss spilling over the edges, tiny red berries tucked into the base, and right at the front: the door. Mr. Sanders' door. Wooden planks, a little door handle, and the sign above it reading Mr. Sanders, hand-crafted and painted to match the original illustrations. Every bit of bark on that trunk was sculpted by hand. Every detail considered.

And at the very top, a soft pale blue tier with the classic Winnie the Pooh — illustrated in the original E.H. Shepard style, holding his balloons — painted and applied with the kind of care that this character deserves.

Three tiers. Three completely different techniques. One completely cohesive world.

The Cookies

Alongside the cake, we created a set of 40 hand-decorated sugar cookies across 10 different designs — made to be given out as party favours at the shower.

Each one was decorated with royal icing in the soft, muted palette of the classic Winnie the Pooh illustrations: warm yellows, sage greens, dusty blues, warm browns and creams. No bright primaries, no modern cartoon colours — just the gentle, nostalgic tones that make the original books so timeless.

Every single one of the designs hand-decorated. Every single one different. Forty cookies, ten designs, zero shortcuts.

Why This Order Meant Something

The classic Winnie the Pooh, the original A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepard version, has such a particular feeling to it. It's gentle. It's nostalgic. It's the kind of thing that means something to adults just as much as it will mean something to the child it's welcoming into the world. And the most important mention, this baby shower order was for my sister!

Getting the style right on something like this really matters. The illustrations have a specific softness, a specific warmth, a specific palette. We worked to honour that in every element of this order, from the map on the bottom tier to the tiniest bee painted on a cookie.

This is what a custom order from House of Bakes looks like when a client gives us a theme they love and the freedom to do it justice.

Thinking About a Baby Shower Order?
