The Giant Tiramisu: When a Wedding Dessert Took an Unexpected Turn

Every so often, a request lands in my inbox that makes me pause, in the best way. This one definitely did. I’m a baker and dessert-maker through and through, but I’ll be honest: I’d never considered making a giant dessert as an alternative to a wedding cake. That all changed the day someone asked if I could create an extra-large tiramisu for their wedding celebration.
Now, tiramisu is something I’ve made many times, but never on this kind of scale. My first step was research and lots of it. I looked into different tray sizes, how many portions each would provide, and what would be practical not just for serving, but for transport, cooling, and structural stability. A dessert this size can’t wobble around in the back of a car… no one needs that kind of stress.
After a few back-and-forth conversations with the customer, we settled on the size: a whopping 65 x 50 cm, serving around 60 generous portions or up to 120 smaller ones. Once the size was locked in, I got to work calculating ingredients. This is where things got interesting.
To build this monster of a tiramisu, I needed:
Just over 3kg of ladyfingers
Nearly 4kg of mascarpone
About one full bottle of Kahlúa
Seeing that written down still makes me laugh, it really was a beast.
Making it was genuinely fun. I documented the process on TikTok, and it gathered a lovely bit of interest, especially when it came to the part where I had to dust the cocoa powder and lift off the “JUST MARRIED” stencil without sending cocoa flying everywhere. (That moment was definitely the most stressful part.)
Then came the transport. I crafted a custom lid to make sure the tiramisu stayed clean and cool, and it took two of us to carry it into the venue’s giant walk-in fridge. After a quick final check to make sure it survived the journey, we left it in the venue’s safe hands.

The morning after the wedding, I got this message from the bride:
“Hi, just wanted to say thank you for our cakes. I was blown away at the tiramisu—it was amazing! I took no photos at all myself of the night 😂 but loads of people did and so did our photographer, so when I have them I’ll send them to you. Everyone was putting it on their Instagram stories xx”
Moments like that genuinely mean everything to us, it allows a little time for reflection on the fact that you're not just providing a cake or a dessert, you're actually playing a part in the most important day of someone's life!
Since then, we’ve had multiple enquiries for giant tiramisus—turns out the idea wasn’t so wild after all. We’ve even already booked two for a 2026 wedding, one of which will be a pistachio tiramisu, and I absolutely cannot wait to make it.
If this giant dessert taught me anything, it’s that weddings are becoming more and more personal, and sometimes the sweetest touches are the ones nobody expects.
